What Can You Do Before the Plumber Arrives?

A burst pipe keeps spreading water until someone shuts it off, and you can usually do that yourself before we get there.

Shut the water down

The meter tap, or the isolation valve beside the hot water unit, stops the flow faster than anything else.

Turn the power off if wiring is wet

A leak close to power points or light fittings means the mains get switched off before anyone touches it.

Clear the floor

Lift rugs, boxes and furniture out of the wet, then ring and tell us what you are looking at.

When Should a Drip Become an Urgent Call?

Some faults can wait for daylight, and we would rather you slept on those. The test is simple: water on the move, water coming through somewhere it shouldn't, or a smell of gas.

  • A burst service pipe or a split line flooding a room is urgent, full stop.
  • A sewer surcharging out of an overflow gully, especially in rain, is urgent.
  • No hot water in a house with kids or elderly residents counts as urgent to us.
  • A slow drip in a laundry tub can usually wait for daylight.

Not sure which side of that line you are on? Tell us on the phone what you can see. We would rather attend a small fault at night than let a big one run until morning.

What Does an After-Hours Visit Cost?

Emergency work is no different, and the after-hours rate is quoted before anyone leaves so the number is never a surprise on the invoice.

What pushes an urgent figure up:

  • The hour. Night and weekend work is charged at the after-hours rate, which is quoted on the phone before we set out.
  • Access. Reaching a burst under a raised floor on wet river soil is slower than opening a garage wall.
  • Pipe material. A failed galvanised service usually means a new section, not a patch.
  • Parts. Whatever the repair draws off the truck, priced before work starts.

From the First Ring to the Repair

  1. 01

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4063 1093 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 02

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead. 3. We isolate the water or gas supply, contain the mess, then repair the fault using the parts and fittings we carry.

  3. 03

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

Flood Ground, Old Steel and Winter Mornings

The rivers set the rules

The lowest streets sit on waterlogged river soil down by the river junction, and anything buried in ground that never dries out ages fast and lets go suddenly. A burst service on a low block down toward the Fitzgerald Bridge end of Adelaide Street is wetter, slower work than the same fault on higher dirt.

Rain arrives in bulk

Average annual rainfall is 1,023 millimetres, and when a stalled low parks over the catchments, the century-old earthenware network takes storm water it was never sized for. Submerged meters and gullies running backwards on the low blocks are flood-adjacent calls this town knows well.

Old steel lets go without warning

Galvanised services in the post-war rings off Richardson Road are past their fiftieth year, and a split one can drain a meter in an hour. The first properly frosty morning of winter is also what finishes off a struggling hot water unit in the family estates.

When We're Not the Right Call

Anything past your meter toward the street is the water authority's to fix, so we give you their fault line instead of a quote. Wiring faults go to an electrician. Every pipe and fitting inside the property boundary is ours.

Once the emergency is contained, the lasting fix usually belongs to one of the other pages on this site:

Questions People Ring Us With at Odd Hours

Do you come out in the middle of the night?

Yes. The phone is staffed every night of the year, and a plumber heads out with the gear to shut things down. The late-night rate is quoted before the truck leaves, so the bill matches what you agreed.

My hot water died on a Sunday. Is that an emergency?

Most households count it as urgent, and we work to that. The unit gets diagnosed on the spot, the repair or replacement is quoted, and a temporary hot water tank keeps the showers running while the new system is sorted.

Water is pouring through my ceiling. What do I do first?

Turn the water off first (the tap sits beside the meter), switch the mains off if water is reaching wiring or light fittings, then ring. Those first two steps save more ceiling and floor than anything that happens after.

What if the burst pipe is out at the street?

The main isn't ours to repair. Ring anyway and describe it. If the break is on the main, we pass you the water authority's fault line so the right crew is sent.
